Is Grasshopper centre-back Laws the next 'target' for Harimau Malaya?

KUALA LUMPUR: Grasshopper Club Zurich centre-back Joshua Laws could be the next naturalised player roped in to strengthen the national football team.

Laws was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but has Australian nationality. He has represented both Scotland and Australia in age-group competitions.

According to Frfuturetalents, who shared a post on Instagram yesterday, Laws' father is from Tawau, Sabah, which makes him eligible to represent Malaysia as a heritage player.

This has gotten fans excited as they believe the current heritage players in the squad are ageing or not up to par.

Injuries or unavailability of key players such as Faisal Halim, Arif Aiman Hanapi and Ahmad Syihan Hazmi have further affected the national squad's performance.

Malaysia's chances of progressing in the World Cup qualifiers have suffered a massive blow after the squad drew 1-1 with Kyrgyzstan on Friday.
