KUALA LUMPUR: Seeing their teammate, Faisal Halim tearfully talk about his ordeal at yesterday's press conference has brought the Selangor players closer more than ever.
They listened with anguish as Faisal was interviewed by the media in his first public appearance since he was attacked with acid by a stranger on May 5.
It was traumatic for both Selangor players and fans to listen to Faisal talk about his suffering.
Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil said the heinous attack on Faisal has left the team shaken.
"How can someone hurt another to such extent," said Nidzam.
"Everyone in the team was emotionally disturbed and shocked. Everyone was also worried and feared for their own and their families' safety."
Nidzam, who is a former Selangor player, said the attack on Faisal has brought the players closer, and they are now playing for each other.
"The attack really brought all of us together. We are not just a football family now... everyone's family is an extended family. Everyone is genuinely involved with each other and cares for each other. We will play for each other, especially for Faisal."
The Selangor coach said he is proud of Faisal's bravery and his determinatin to come back to playing football.
"He's really a 'stubborn' guy, and he said he wants to return to football. For me, whenever he's ready, I will back him all the way."
