Selangor see red amid failed floodlights with two players sent off

PETALING JAYA: Two East Malaysian teams crashed out in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

Kuching City lost 5-3 to Selangor on penalties at MBPJ Stadium in the second leg while Sabah lost 3-0 to Terengganu at home.

Selangor's match was packed with drama as they had two players sent off amid failed floodlights.

Watched by Faisal Halim in the stands, Selangor won 3-2 to level 4-4 on aggregate, which led to the penalty shootout.

In regulation time, Kuching City had seized the lead in the 15th minute through Nur Shamie Iszuan Amin. But Selangor's Ahmad Zikri Khalili equalised 12 minutes later and Alvin Fortes added their second goal in the 39th.

In the 66th minute, , the floodlights near the grandstands blacked out, resulting in 20 minutes of stoppage time.

During the extended period, Selangor's Yohandry Orozco was red carded after a VAR

review.

Yet, Fortes struck again for Selangor in the 97th, giving them a 3-1 lead. However, Kuching City's Alif Hassan reduced the deficit a minute later.

Selangor were further reduced to nine men when Reziq Bani Hani was sent off in the 102nd minute, but the outnumbered Red Giants managed to hang on.

During the shootout, Selangor's Safuwan Baharudin, Aliff Haiqal Lokman Hakim Lau, Syahir Bashah, Aliff Izwan Yuslan and Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar l converted their kicks, securing a semi-final date with Terengganu.

Elsewhere, angry Sabah fans demanded answers outside the Likas Stadium over unpaid wages faced by their players. And poor Sabah lost 3-0 to add to their 4-0 first leg misery.

Terengganu scored through Safawi Rasid, Akhyar Rashid and Marin Pilj. Terengganu will face Selangor in the semi-finals.
