KUALA LUMPUR: KL City will address the allegation made by their captain Paulo Josue, who claims he has not received his salary for the last seven months, in a press conference on Wednesday.
However, it is puzzling that KL City owners, Kuala Lumpur United FC Sdn Bhd, are unaware of the club's salary problems.
Josue, a naturalised midfielder with the City Boys since 2017, said he has been surviving on his savings.
Club CEO Stanley Bernard said the club will clarify in a press conference on Wednesday.
"We will hold a press conference to explain the entire situation," said Stanley.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur United FC Sdn Bhd director Syed Yazid Syed Omar expressed surprise over Josue's claim of not being paid since December last year.
The KL City owners claimed that they were not informed about the salary arrears during a presentation by Stanley at a recent KLFA executive committee meeting.
Syed Yazid added that team management will meet with relevant parties to resolve the issue.
"I will meet with the players to gain a clearer understanding of the salary arrears affecting the team. Each player may have different arrears, and it is quite surprising that Josue has not been paid for up to seven months."
Unpaid wages in the M-League are not uncommon.
Melaka United, Sarawak United, and Kelantan were expelled from the Super League in the past due to similar issues.
Several clubs, including Kedah, Sri Pahang, Sabah, and Negri Sembilan, reportedly face delays in salary payments this season.
In April, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced the implementation of Financial Fair Play (FFP) within the M-League for the 2024/2025 season to monitor player and staff salary payments.
However, despite the initiative, the number of cases appears to be increasing.
