KUALA LUMPUR: Two days after Kim Pan Gon's surprise exit from the national football team, Harimau Malaya honoured the South Korean coach with a rise in world ranking.
Pan Gon stepped down from his post prematurely as his contract with FAM was until December next year.
Malaysia's ranking rose to 134th from 135th in Fifa's list today.
Though it's only one spot, it's still a good farewell present from the team to Pan Gon.
This is for Malaysia's performance in June, where Malaysia held Kyrgyzstan to a 1-1 draw and beat Taiwan 3-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier. Harimau Malaya accumulated 1107.58 points. This placed them 24th in the Asian rankings.
Japan are No.1 in Asia, followed by Iran, South Korea Australia and Qatar in the top five.
In the Asean region, Malaysia rank fifth. Australia are first, followed by Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
