KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil is relieved that none of his players sustained serious injuries in their 2-1 win over Singapore in the Sultan of Selangor's Cup at Merdeka Stadium here yesterday.
Selangor scored through Ronnie Fernandez (82nd minute) and Alvin Fortes (90th), while Faris Ramli netted Singapore's only goal in the 87th minute.
The victory serves as the perfect tonic for the Red Giants ahead of their FA Cup final clash against defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
Last week, Selangor edged Sabah 2-1 away in a Super League match.
Nidzam is satisfied with Selangor's recent performances and believes the team will be feeling confident for the FA Cup final.
"We're pleased that there were no serious injuries against Singapore. There are many positives we can take from the win going into the FA Cup final," said Nidzam.
Nidzam is also happy with Faisal Halim's progress since returning to football following an acid attack on May 5.
"We're pleased with Faisal's progress. While he's not yet at the level we all expect, he's definitely on the right track.
"It's not just about Faisal. I believe all 23 players showed great commitment, especially the younger players against Singapore.
"We rested Safuwan Baharudin and Alex Agyarkwa to prepare for the FA Cup final, but overall, I am happy with the team," Nidzam added.
