KUALA LUMPUR: KL City delivered a ruthless 5-0 demolition of a depleted Kedah side in their Super League clash at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras on Saturday.
The night was all about captain Paulo Josue, who etched his name into the club's history books by shattering the long-standing goal-scoring record once held by Singaporean icon Fandi Ahmad.
Josue's double took his tally to 69 goals for KL City, surpassing Fandi's 67.
Kedah's woes began before kick-off as they fielded a squad made up mostly of Under-23 and Under-18 players. Their senior team reportedly refused to play, protesting over unpaid wages that have left the club in financial turmoil.
Jovan Motika kicked off the rout in the 14th minute, clinically beating Kedah goalkeeper Hafizy Hajazy.
Things quickly went from bad to worse for the visitors when Kedah's Akmal Hakim Rosli accidentally turned Josue's shot into his own net in the 23rd minute.
Zhafri Yahya then piled on the misery with a third just three minutes later, sending KL City into the break 3-0 up.
The second half belonged to Josue. The Brazilian maestro added two more in the 49th and 58th minutes, completing his brace and sealing the comprehensive win for Miroslav Kuljanac's men.
For KL City, it was a crucial victory, marking their fourth from nine matches, pulling them up to ninth place with eight points, a rung above Kedah.
