KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor chalked up their second win in the Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2) with a rousing 2-1 win over South Korean side Jeonbuk Motor at the MBPJ Stadium today.
Though the Red Giants were predicted to face an uphill battle against the Koreans due to missing several regulars, including skipper Safuwan Baharudin, they showed character and tenacity to upset the formbook.
Stand-in captain Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Jordanian midfielder Ali Olwan doubled Selangor's lead in the 33rd minute.
However, Jeonbuk's Kwon Chang Hoon reduced the deficit in the 40th minute with a close range header.
Coach Nidzam Jamil's men could have restored their two-goal cushion in the 50th minute but Croatian midfielder Nikola Jambor's attempt hit the crossbar.
Selangor were reduced to 10 men after Yohandry Orozco was sent off deep into added time after getting his second booking.
Selangor now top Group H with seven points from two wins and one draw while Jeonbuk fell to second place with six points from three matches.
Selangor will meet Jeonbuk again away at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium on Nov 7.
