KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) striker Bergson Da Silva applauds the club's young guns after they played a pivotal role in the resounding 6-0 victory over KL Rovers in the return leg of the Malaysia Cup round of 16 on Saturday.
The 9-0 aggregate win saw several new faces making their first 11 debut, with Bergson proudly watching JDT's next generation of talent take centre stage.
JDT head coach Hector Bidoglio listed Danish Hakimi Sahaludin, 19, and Fakrul Haikal Razali, 21, in his first 11 in the return leg. In the first leg, Alif Mutalib, 22, and goalkeeper Christian Abad Amat, 18, had also made their senior debuts.
"It's so exciting to see these young guys stepping up. We feel very proud of them. We've seen how hard they worked and the titles they won at youth level. Now they're having their moment, and I'm sure they'll keep pushing to get results," said Da Silva.
On target for the Southern Tigers against KL were La'Vere Corbin-Ong (33rd minute), Jese Rodriguez (45+3), Alif Mutalib (75th), Da Silva (82nd) and Mohamadou Sumareh (88th). KL Rovers' Raffi Nagoorgani scored an own goal in the 13th.
The match also saw former Real Madrid player, Jese Rodriguez, scoring his first goal for JDT.
"Rodriguez is working very hard, but he needs a bit more time. His quality is clear, and we need him to help us win the games and get to the final," said Bidoglio.
