KUALA LUMPUR: FAM wants to revamp the President's Cup (Under-21) and Youth Cup (Under-18) competitions to ensure financial sustainability.
FAM vice-president Firdaus Mohamed said they plan to reduce the number of groups to alleviate the financial pressure on participating teams.
Currently, the President's Cup features 16 teams in two groups of eight, while the Youth Cup comprises 18 teams in two groups of nine.
"We are exploring the idea of having a single group in each tournament instead of two.
"There's no point organising lengthy tournaments if teams are struggling to pay salaries."
On the proposals by FAM technical director Scott O'Donell to introduce Under-15 and Under-16 leagues, Firdaus said discussions are still ongoing, particularly with the Ministry of Education.
