KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have shown that they are far ahead of other Malaysian states in football development.
JDT III won their third consecutive President's Cup - a competition for M-League's developmental teams - after a goalless draw against Selangor in the return leg of the final at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council Stadium on Wednesday.
The Young Southern Tigers won the first leg 2-1 at the MBPJ Stadium on Nov 6.
JDT III head coach Gonzalo San Zaballos said his team showed a disciplined performance, had defensive solidity and the ability to control the game.
The victory earned JDT III a prize of RM100,000.
Selangor coach, Firdaus Tan Aziz said: "Congratulations to JDT III for winning the title three times in a row.
Firdaus acknowledged the gap between the two teams, noting the difference in quality and finishing ability.
"There were clear differences between the sides. We started well, but without goals, we couldn't progress," he said.
JDT's victory marks their fourth President's Cup title, following wins in 2009, 2022 and 2023.
The club's continued success in the competition mirrors the achievements of their senior team, further establishing JDT as a dominant force in Malaysian football.
