KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 golfer Gavin Kyle Green has vowed to make his second appearance in this week's season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai count.
The 28-year-old is almost certain of achieving his career-best position in his five seasons on the DP World Tour (European Tour) after moving up another 14 spots to No. 28 in the Race to Dubai standings following a laudable seventh place at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa on Sunday.
Only the top 50 finishers in the Race to Dubai get to tee it up at the US$10 million (RM46 million) show-piece at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Gavin's previous best finish in a season was No. 52 in 2020. That season, he made it to the Tour Championship for the first time.
Gavin finished among the top 50 players again after battling back from a rough patch last season where he ended up a lowly No. 168.
Gavin said he is thrilled at the prospect of taking on an illustrious 50-man field headlined by world No. 1 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.
"I started off the year just trying to regain my card and I'm thrilled for sure to have finished the season strongly and made it to the tour finals," said Gavin.
"I've only played the DP World Tour Championship once and I loved it. I can't ask for a contest bigger than this as it features only the best 50 players this season.
"There are substantial points on offer, I must take this chance to finish as high as possible in the final standings. My previous best was 52nd.
"It has been such a tough two years and I'm just happy to be where I am right now. I can't be more proud with how I fought my way back.
"My mind is in a good place, my game is in a good place. So, it's all looking up at the moment.
"With the help of my coach, I have been working on my swing for the last couple of years too and it has started to click," said Gavin.
