KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian golfer Gavin Green achieved his best Olympic performance to date, finishing a respectable joint 33rd in Paris.
The 30-year-old carded a two-under 69 for the third consecutive day, concluding the tournament at Le Golf National with a three-under 281 total.
Green finished with a remarkable par save from eight feet on the par-four 18th hole, overcoming a tee shot that found the water.
His final round began with mixed fortunes, sandwiching a birdie between two bogeys on the second and fourth holes.
However, Green rebounded impressively with four birdies on holes seven, nine, 10, and 11.
A top-half finish seemed within reach until he dropped his third bogey of the day on the 17th, his third of the week on par-four holes.
Green expressed satisfaction with his performance, describing it as a "successful campaign" that surpassed his solo 47th-place finish during his Olympic debut in Rio 2016.
"It was an up-and-down day, but it was solid overall," he said
"A slow start, but a good recovery, and finishing under par on this course is something I'll take. There are a few things I wasn't happy about, like my driving, which I need to work on, but overall it was a successful Olympics."
The Paris Olympics gold medal race concluded with a thrilling finish with American world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler mounting a spectacular comeback, overturning a four-shot deficit with a blistering 62 to finish at 19-under 265. This secured him a one-shot victory over Britain's Tommy Fleetwood (66). Hideki Matsuyama claimed the bronze for Japan, closing with a 65 to finish two shots behind the leader.
