Top LPGA golfers set for Maybank Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Some of the top names in women's golf will compete for glory at the Maybank Championship from Oct 26 to 29.The tournament will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).

The championship will witness two-time Olympic medallist Lydia Ko, two-time LPGA Tour winner Lilia Vu, Chinese sensation Ruoning Yin, and recently crowned US Open champion Allisen Corpuz teeing off in the LPGA Tour-sanctioned event.Maybank Group president and chief executive officer Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said: "The Maybank Championship is more than just a golfing event.

"It is a value-driven platform to accelerate women's golf and inspire the next generation of golfers," he said.Lydia is currently ranked third in the Rolex Women's Golf Rankings, followed closely by No. 4 Yin and No. 5 Lilia.

Adding to the star-studded cast is No. 6 American Allisen, who won her first major at the recent US Women's Open.Lydia has recorded 19 LPGA Tour victories and is a two-time Rolex Player of the Year Award winner (2015 and 2022).

Among her many wins were the CME Group Tour Championship, Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio, and the BMW Ladies Championship, all in 2022.Lilia is a rising star in women's golf. She recorded victories at this year's Honda LPGA Thailand and Chevron Championship.

China's Yin won the PGA Championship and LA Open this year.These top guns will battle it out with 64 other LPGA Tour golfers, with 10 spots reserved for Malaysian and Asean players. The Maybank Championship is a no-cut event and offers a prize pool of US$3 million.
