MSSSC punishes culprits in Gurdwara Cup fracas

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Singapore Sikh Sports Council (MSSSC) took punitive action against those involved in an ugly incident during a men's hockey match between Kuala Lumpur and Johor at Tun Razak Stadium yesterday.

Viral videos showed players and officials from opposing teams confronting each other and shouting obscenities, marring the opening men's match of the Gurdwara Cup.

MSSSC secretary Keshmahinder Singh said he had received the tournament director, Vinod Anand's report on the match.

"The MSSSC exco has decided that the Johor player jersey No. 94 (Amarpreet Singh) is hereby suspended for one match for the use of abusive language towards the match official.

"While player with jersey No. 11 (Jasraj Singh) is hereby suspended for two matches for using abusing language towards and threatening the match official.

"These suspensions are to take immediate effect."

Keshmahinder said Kuala Lumpur team manager, Ajit Pal Singh, has been suspended for one match for using a derogatory word against Johor players.

"The MSSSC exco expects the highest level of discipline and sportsmanship from all teams during the Gurdwara Cup.

"We take a serious view of such behaviour and conduct and shall not hesitate to take further severe action in the future."
