Terengganu edge Perak in Razak Cup thriller

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu edged Perak 6-5 in a men's Group B match to stay on track for the semi-finals in the Razak Cup hockey tournament at the Taman Daya Stadium in Johor Baru today.

It was the East Coast team's third consecutive win as they beat Armed Forces 3-1 and Police 8-5 earlier.

For Perak, it was their first defeat after wins over Sabah (5-4) and Negri Sembilan (2-1).

Fitri Saari got a hat-trick for Terengganu, scoring in the 47th, 53rd and 54th minutes.

Faizal Saari (sixth), Akhimullah Anuar Esook (30th) and Firdaus Hakimi Alias (60th) netted their other goals.

Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (third, 41st), Syed Izzul Akmal Syed Alik (17th), Aiman Safwan Abdullah (39th) and Luqman Hakim Asri (59th) scored for Perak.

Terengganu coach Asrul Hisyam Ahmad praised his players for their fighting spirit.

"We were trailing 4-2 but fought back hard in the last quarter to score four goals."

Meanwhile, Young Tigress, who are preparing for the Junior Asia Cup in Muscat in December, registered their third win by outplaying Negri Sembilan 4-0 in a Group B match. They beat Melaka 3-1 and KL 7-0 earlier.

Group B: Sabah 2 Melaka 1, Police 1 Armed Forces 7, Perak 5 Terengganu 6, N. Sembilan 2 Melaka 2.

Women's Group B: Young Tigress 4 N. Sembilan 0, K. Lumpur 2 Terengganu 1, Melaka 3 Armed Forces 2.
