Hayden looks ahead after 'best season ever'

KUALA LUMPUR: Talented young race driver Hayden Haikal enjoyed his strongest season so far last year and is determined to keep the momentum going.

Hayden claimed six titles across the Malaysia Championship Series (MCS), Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF) and Thailand Super Series (TSS) platforms last year.

He also got his first taste of GT racing in Thailand where he finished third overall in the GT4 class driving for Racing Aurora.

The 20-year-old is hoping to continue his progress in GT racing this season.

"At the moment, I have not really finalised my plans for this year yet," said Hayden when contacted today (Jan 1).

"But it is very likely I will continue racing for HI-REV Dream Chaser in MCS and I am also looking to continue racing in GT4 or GT3 in Thailand this year.

"Hopefully I can continue driving for Racing Aurora but we will have to see how things go.

"I learnt a lot in GT4 this year and really started to feel more comfortable with the car towards the end of the season, especially in the final round.

"It would be awesome if I could get a seat in a works team, as it would allow me to focus on driving and not have to think about securing sponsorship too much.

"I think 2024 was my best season so far in racing and I am hoping to continue doing well this year. We will have to see how things go."

Hayden's highlights last year included winning the Merdeka Cup race together with Gan Kim Koa and Lee Wai Cong as well as the Sepang 1000 Kilometres (S1K) with Rahul Mayer and Daim Hishammudin.

It gave Dream Chaser their maiden S1K victory after a decade of trying. S1K is a demanding race that has often been dominated by works teams in the past.
