National swimmers challenge at Asian Games ends

JAKARTA: The national swimming squad ended their challenge in the Asian Games at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatics Center without any noteworthy achievements or results as the swimmers failed to qualify for the final of their respective events earlier today.

In the 50m individual breaststroke, Foong Wei Tze finished eighth in heat five recording a time of 29.52s as he failed to make the final.

Wei Tze then took part in the 4x100m together with compatriots Tern Jian Han, Chan Jie and Keith Lim as the national quartet finished with a time of 3 minutes 49.08s.

The finished sixth in the third heat and they missed out on the final as well.

Overall, the national swimming squad will not only return without a medal but also failed to break three national records.

Welson Sim was the best swimmer out of the lot when he earlier broke the national 800m individual freestyle national record.

Dia also helped the national 4x100m men’s freestyle quartet break the national record with a time of 3:21.06s.

Phee Jinq En also did well for herself as she managed to break the women’s 50m breaststroke national record.

She clocked an impressive time of 31.46s to erase her own previous national record of 31.54s which she achieved while competing at last year’s Kuala Lumpur Sea Games.
