Malaysia's Tekken fighter ready to take on rivals in Taiwan

KUALA LUMPUR: Zarif Aiman may be Malaysia’s lone challenger in Tekken 7 at the IESF World Championships in Taiwan on Nov 5-13 but he is aiming high.

He wants to better last year’s result by finishing in the top eight at the world meet.

The 19-year-old, who has come a long way since last year’s edition, has been working on polishing his skills.

“Since last year, I have improved and I have been practising a lot.

“I have been focusing on how to maximise winning points in the way I fight my opponents.

“My biggest rivals there will be the Koreans,” said Zarif who plays under the name HXI Zaba.

eSports Malaysia (ESM) secretary general Rinie Ramli said the country’s three eSports teams (HXI Zaba, Team FrostFire and Team Int Central) will try to survive the group stage.

“Looking at the group stage, the other countries are quite strong, so anything above that would be a great achievement,” said Rinie at the flag handing ceremony for the IESF World Championships at the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil

Rinie said the three titles that Malaysia will be competing in are not the country’s forte, and as such, ESM can only hope for the best.
