Malaysia gets one shot at Tokyo Games

One shooter is certain to represent Malaysia in the Tokyo Olympics later this year.

The National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) were granted a wildcard by the International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF) last month after none of their shooters managed to qualify on merit.

However, the national shooters are being kept in the dark as NSAM have not named a representative for the Olympics.

Pistol shooter Alia Sazana Azahari, 19, a two-time Sea Games champion, said: “We hope NSAM will make a decision soon so that the shooter can start preparing for the Tokyo assignment.

“Everyone has a chance. I am not counting myself out but we should not be kept in the dark over this matter,” said Alia.

Malaysian shooters managed to qualify on merit for the last three editions through Hasli Izwan Amir Hasan (2008 Beijing), Nur Suryani Taibi (2012 London) and Johnathan Wong (2016 Rio).
