Shooter Nur Suryani Taibi is not too disappointed with her performance at the Tokyo Olympics considering that she had only a month to prepare for the Games.
The 38-year-old finished 34th out of 37 shooters with 1,142 points in the women's 50m rifle three-position at the Asaka Shooting Range yesterday in her second Olympic appearance after the 2012 London Games.
Suryani, who made international headlines when she competed at the London Games while pregnant, only received an Olympic wildcard from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) a month before the Tokyo Games.
For the record, the shooting team have not been following a proper training programme for the last two years due to the Covid-19 situation.
"I think I've done my part professionally. This was, after all, a great opportunity to challenge myself with quite a few limitations in regard to my preparation," admitted Suryani.
"I am just proud that I can stand here and represent the country in the sport that I love most."
Suryani also added she still plans to keep on shooting for the foreseeable future.
"I don't think I'll be stopping anytime soon. As long as there isn't a successor who can provide a strong challenge, I will be ready to serve the country," added Suryani.
Meanwhile, Switzerland's Nina Christen, who qualified sixth, came out strongly in the final to grab the gold.
The 2019 European champion shot a new Olympic record of 463.9 points in the final to pip Russian Olympic Committee's Yulia Zykova (461.9) for the title.
Former world champion Yulia Karimova of the ROC grabbed the bronze.
