East Coast sides made a sweep in the inaugural National Under-23 Hockey 5s tournament at National Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
Terengganu edged Pahang 2-1 for the title, while Kelantan overcame Kedah 5-4 for the bronze medal.
Although the tournament is new in Malaysia, the 13 participating teams now want to promote the event in their states.
Terengganu team manager Apadi Sulaiman was among the excited officials.
"We have no pitch in Terengganu, and the players only gathered a week before the tournament.
"And, understandably, we started slowly and only finished fourth in our group to qualify for the quarter-finals.
"However, we grew in confidence from the quarter-finals to claim the title.
"It would be nice if we could build a permanent Hockey 5s pitch in the state to kick-start it among our schools," said Apadi.
