KUALA LUMPUR: Three finals and three defeats.
Malaysia's target in cricket was three gold medals at the Phnom Penh Sea Games, but instead, the men's team ended up with three silver.
Credit to Malaysia, they gave a good fight against foreign-powered Cambodia before losing by 10 runs in the men's T10 final at the AZ Ground Oval Stadium today.
Malaysia also lost the 50 overs and T20 finals to Cambodia.
Cambodia, who have naturalised players from India and Pakistan, won the toss and batted first.
The hosts did well in batting, scoring 106 runs with the loss of nine wickets in 10 overs.
Malaysia needed a run chance of 107, but they just could not achieve the score. They recorded 96 runs with the loss of six wickets.
Sahaj Chadha was the man of the match for Cambodia, recording 43 runs from 22 balls with three fours and three sixes.
Ahmad Zubaidi Zulkifle and Virandeep Singh batted first for Malaysia, with the former making 40 runs in 29 balls. Virandeep failed to record a run.
Syed Aziz Syed Mubarak got 16 runs in 13 balls. Sharvin Muniyandy did well to get three wickets.
Captain Ahmad Faiz Noor said his team gave away too many runs in the opening five overs.
"However, Sharvin and Virandeep bowled really well to bring Cambodia's run rate down.
"Zubaidi's 40 runs were still not good enough to chase Cambodia. We started well until the six overs. When we tried to accelerate the runs, the wickets fell.
"We have settled for a third silver here," said Faiz, who was Malaysia's winning 50 overs and T20 teams at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games.
