KUALA LUMPUR: Esports club Team Haq will represent Malaysia at the 2023 Phygital Games in Kazan, Russia, this month.
The team was chosen to represent the country after receiving an invitation from the organisers based on their performances at the national and international levels.
Besides Malaysia, seven other countries — including the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Cambodia — will send teams.
The competition is part of the Games of the Future in Kazan, with a line up of different sports using the phygital approach, a combination of physical and digital.
Team Haq Esports Club founder Aimanhaq Zaharudin expressed his gratitude after his team was chosen.
"This is the first championship that we will be participating in Europe, so the experience will be different."
Aimanhaq said his club would send a second team, Team Haq All Star, and that players would be evaluated to see if they were qualified to join the main squad once the play transfer window opened in Malaysia.
He added that the club's participation in Russia could condition the team before the start of the 12th season of the Mobile Legends Professional League Malaysia.
Team Haq All Star's line up includes players such as Lola, Minnn, Mannn, Nain and Hitto.
The second qualifying round for Team Haq on July 20 offer prizes worth US$50,000.
Teams that finish at the top will qualify for the final round next year with a grand prize of US$3 million.
