Malaysia to build RM10 million eSports stadium

JOHOR BARU: RM10 million from the RM20 million announced for eSports in the 2025 Budget will be used to build an eSports stadium.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this today (Nov 3) before the start of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League Malaysia (MPLMY) Season 14 playoffs Grand Finals at EduCity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri.

He said that the remaining allocation would be spent on training and other eSports-related activities.

"Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Sarawak has developed modules to train students to be ready for the eSports industry.

"They have also created courses for content creation where they make match content for Malaysian audience.

"Besides that, they are in the process of building an eSports stadium (themselves)," said Zahid, who is also the national TVET council chairman.

Zahid said he feels that eSports should continue to be encouraged not only on the competitive side, but also in content creation, which would create more opportunities in this industry.

Last month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a total of RM230 million for the Youth and Sports Ministry. And from that, RM20 million will be used to strengthen the eSports ecosystem in the country.
