Asian Games: Day 1 preview and schedule (Sept 24) [NSTTV]

HANGZHOU: Malaysia's quest for 27 medals at the 19th Asian Games officially starts today.

Wushu exponents Wong Weng Son and Sydney Chin will kick off Malaysia's campaign in the men's changquan and women's Taijiquan-Taijijian disciplines in the morning.

Weng Son, who finished ninth at the previous Games in Jakarta-Palembang, is confident of a podium finish.

Malaysia's Olympic qualification goal in men's hockey also begins today when the Speedy Tigers take on minnows Thailand in the morning. A win is expected from A. Arul Selvaraj's men.

The national sevens rugby squad must beat either the Philippines or Hong Kong in Group A today to qualify for the semi-finals.

In shooting, Olympian Nur Suryani Taibi and newcomer Alia Husna Budruddin will compete in the women's 10m rifle event.

In swimming, two-time Olympian Phee Jinq En must do well in the women's 50m breaststroke heats in the morning to qualify for the evening final.

In taekwondo, Jason Loo and Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim are in the men's and women's individual poomsae, respectively.
