Sports Ministry aims to organise more eSports events in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has set itself the goal of bringing more world-class sports events such as the Electronic Sports League (ESL) One to Malaysia in the future.

Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim expressed this ambition and linked it to the goal of making Malaysia a hub for eSports in Southeast Asia.

"We hope that through these endeavours, we can boost the continuous and sustainable growth of the eSports industry in Malaysia," he said after an ESL One walkabout session here today.

A total of 12 of the world's best teams competing in the DOTA game will be vying for one of the six spots in the ESL One Play-Offs and a chance to win US$1 million (RM4.6 million) in cash prizes.

The international tournament, now in its fourth year, began on Dec 11 and runs until this Sunday.
