Malaysian women's archery team qualify for Paris Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian women's archery team (recurve) have qualified for next month's Paris Olympics.

Ariana Nur Dania Zairi, Nurul Azreena Fazil and Syaqiera Mashayikh booked their Olympic ticket after defeating 10th seed Great Britain's Megan Havers, Bryony Pitman and Penny Healey 5-3 in the semi-finals of the World Cup, which acts as an Olympic qualifier, in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday.

This is the first time the Malaysian women's recurve team will feature in the Olympics.

Sixth seed Malaysia will face top seed China in the final. China beat Taiwan 4-1 in the other semi-final. The four semi-finalists will qualify for the Paris Olympics.

All the three Malaysian women's archers will also feature in the individual events in the Olympics.

To date, 20 Malaysian athletes have qualified for the Paris Olympics.

More than 300 recurve archers from 84 countries are competing in the World Cup in Antalya.
