Archer Ariana is 100% ready for Paris Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR: Archer Ariana Nur Dania Zairi has two targets in her Olympic debut in Paris - a national record and a semi-finals.

The 19-year-old from Kuala Lumpur wants to break her national record of 669 points set at the World Olympic Qualifier in Antalya, Turkey, last month.

The mechanical engineering student also aims to reach the recurve team semi-finals with compatriots Syaqiera Mashayikh and Nurul Azreena Fazil.

Ariana said she is 100% ready for the Olympics after two weeks of high intensity training in South Korea.

"I'm mentally and physically in the best shape of my life. I'm looking forward to breaking my national record in Paris.

"I don't feel nervous or have any pressure to compete in the biggest sporting event in the world.

"I believe with the stiff competition in Paris, I will be able to set a new national record.

"I also believe that we will be able to combine well to defy the odds and reach the team semi-finals.

"Last year I did well to qualify for the Paris Olympics by winning the Asian Continental Championship in Bangkok," said Ariana who beat Uzbekistan's Ziyodakhon Abdusattorova 7-3 in the 70m recurve event final.

Ariana said she felt good to qualify for the Paris Olympics twice after she also won a team silver in the World Olympic Qualifier in Antalya. In the final, the Malaysian trio lost narrowly 5-4 to China.

Ariana and company will leave tonight for Paris together with coach Norizham Ishak. The Olympic qualifying rounds for individual events will begin on July 25 at Esplanade de Invalides, Paris.
