Malaysia's Maisarah stuns Hong Kong's top seed Ka Man

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Maisarah Khairul Nizam toppled Hong Kong's top seed Li Ka Man 11-6, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9 to reach the girls' Under-13 semi-finals of the Asian Junior Squash Championships in Islamabad, Pakistan, yesterday.

The KL player will face India's fourth seed M. Goushika next.

Debutant Maisarah said she never expected to upset the top seed.

"I'm happy with my performance and I hope to play much better in the semi-finals," said Maisarah whose parents are teachers at Bukit Jalil Sports School.

Three Malaysian players reached the semi-finals in the girls' Under-15. Top seed Harleein Tan beat India's Anika Dubey 11-2, 11-5, 11-5 and will face compatriot Yek Rui Jean next.

Rui Jean overcame Tang Lok Yin of Hong Kong 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8 while Ooi Wen Min beat Singapore's Jayna Lim 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 to set up a date with second seed Lo Pui Yin Chloe of Hong Kong.
