Joachim comes from behind to stun Ameeshenraj

KUALA LUMPUR: Joint fifth seed Joachim Chuah came back from the brink of defeat to upset joint third seed C. Ameeshenraj to qualify for the men's semi-finals in the National Squash Championships today.

Joachim won 5-11, 12-14, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 in 70 minutes, and will next face second seed Syafiq Kamal at NSC Courts in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

Syafiq beat Duncan Lee 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in the quarter-finals.

Joachim said: "This is only my second national championship, and I feel really good. I have never played Syafiq before in a tournament, but I can expect a tough match against him."

Top seed Addeen Idrakie fought back from a set down to beat Amir Amirul Azhar 8-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-5 to reach the last four.

The 30-year-old Addeen will face joint fifth seed Hafiz Zhafri Abdul Harif next.

Joint fifth seed Hafiz upset joint third seed Ong Sai Hung by coming back from two sets down to win 8-11, 7-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-2 in 53 minutes.

In women's competition, top seed Aifa Azman beat Vhen Yu Jie 11-3, 11-1, 11-4, and will face Ainaa Amani for a place in the final.

Ainaa defeated Yee Xin Ying 12-10, 11-8, 11-7.

Defending champion Aira Azman warded off a strong challenge from Goh Zhi Xuan before prevailing 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, and will take on K. Sehveetrraa in the semi-finals.

Sehveetrraa defeated Asian Under-19 champion U. Thanussa 11-6, 11-2, 11-8.
