Two coaches to help speed demon Azeem in Paris

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's fastest man, Azeem Fahmi, will be assisted by not one coach but two at this month's Paris Olympics.

The 20-year-old, who holds the national 100m record of 10.09s, was named as Malaysia's sole wild card for the Olympics by the Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) yesterday.

American Ken Harnden will be in Paris to coach Asian Games bronze medallist Azeem in an unofficial capacity at the Olympics.

The MAF has yet to name its coach to accompany Azeem in Paris.

Harnden, who has been coaching Azeem at Auburn University in Alabama since January last year, will also be aiding athletes from other countries in Paris.

MAF general manager Nurhayati Karim said the national body has yet to name its coach to be in charge of Azeem at the Olympics.

Harnden also assisted Azeem at the Asian Championships in Bangkok last April and the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, last August.
