Malaysian archer Syaqiera crushes Moldova's Mirca 6-0 at Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's women's archer Syaqiera Mashayikh shone at the Paris Olympics today.

She routed Moldova's Alexandra Mirca 6-0 to qualify for the second round of the women's individual recurve event.

It's already an improvement for Syaqiera who had lost in the first round to a Russian in her Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021.

The Johorean, who shot a personal best of 663 to finish 14th among 64 archers in the ranking round on July 25, fired rounds of 30-27, 27-23, 26-24 at the Esplanade des Invalides today.

World No. 130 Syaqiera will face Ana Luiza Sliachticas Caetano of Brazil for a place in the third round later today. Ana Luiza beat Slovakia's Zana Pintaric 6-2 in the first round.
