Harlem Globetrotters stars wow fans with basketball wizardry

KUALA LUMPUR: Harlem Globetrotters stars Wham Middleton and Moose Weekes captivated fans at the National Under-21 3x3 Basketball Championships and Berjaya Times Square here last weekend, offering a taste of their upcoming Asia Tour in November.

In an impactful promotional appearance, Middleton and Weekes showcased their extraordinary skills, leaving spectators spellbound with ball-spinning techniques, breath-taking dunks, and remarkable four-point shots.

Weekes particularly amazed the crowd with an incredible one-handed, back-facing shot from beyond the court boundaries.

Middleton highlighted the Globetrotters' unique blend of athleticism and entertainment: "Well, you know, it's not your normal basketball game. It's a combination of showcasing our skills, entertainment, and real basketball.

"I hold nine Guinness World Records for tricks, but I'm also the fastest dribbler in the world, so you'll see some of that.

"We have some of the best shooters, high-flying dunkers, and amazing personalities. You know we might pull you onto the court to come play with us; you never know what to expect."

Weekes emphasised the inclusive nature of their performances: "We believe that the Globetrotters is where athleticism and skills meet excitement and magic.

"We pride ourselves on being able to entertain the smallest child in your family to the oldest adult.

"So babies, grandparents, couples, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, you name it, they're coming to the Globetrotter game. They're going to have a great time, and we're going to create memories worth repeating that will last a lifetime."

The duo's performance was a perfect blend of basketball wizardry and comedic flair, engaging audience members of all ages in their interactive routines.

Middleton and Weekes also had the honour of presenting awards to the winners of the National Under-21 3x3 Championships.

In this inaugural event, Selangor claimed the men's title with a dominant 21-4 victory over Sarawak, while Terengganu secured the women's championship, defeating Selangor 16-9.

The third-place playoffs saw Johor triumph over Kuala Lumpur 20-13 in the women's division, and Terengganu edged out Perak 21-16 in the men's category.
