KUALA LUMPUR: Finishing on the podium in the women's 3 metre springboard individual event at the Paris Olympics will be tough, but not impossible, for national diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri.
National diving programme technical director Bryan Nickson Lomas anticipates that Dhabitah will have to score at least 330 points or more in the final to finish on the podium.
The 3m springboard individual event will begin at the Paris Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis tomorrow.
"It can be hard to predict, but to be safe you have to score 330 or higher to finish on the podium," said Bryan recently.
"But it also depends on the form of the other divers in the final as well.
"For example, in the men's 10m platform synchronised here (Paris), about 420 was enough for bronze. Usually it is much higher.
"If she can achieve 320 and above a top-four finish is within reach."
Dhabitah had finished fourth in the 3m springboard individual event at Tokyo 2020 after scoring 326.15 in the final.
The 25-year-old has, however, struggled with injuries over the past few seasons. A wrist injury forced her to withdraw from the women's 10m platform synchronised at the Fukuoka World Championships last year.
A tricep injury hampered her performance at the Doha World Championships this year while she suffered a fever at last month's Australian Open.
Dhabitah has yet to breach 300 in competitions this year, however, Bryan disclosed that she has shown positive improvements in training and has "looked solid" in the lead up to the games.
Bryan added that he expects Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen, who clinched a 1-2 finish for China at the Doha World Championships in February, to be the favourites.
"China are sending different divers from the ones that represented them at Tokyo 2020 but they are just as strong," said Bryan.
"Kim Su-ji also did well to win bronze for South Korea in Doha while Maddison Keeney (Australia) and Sarah Bacon (United States) will also be among the contenders for medals."
Bryan added that he expects Dhabitah to qualify for the final on Friday if she can consistently score 280 and above in the preliminaries and semi-finals.
