Sometimes the body does not follow the mind, says Dhabitah

KUALA LUMPUR: National diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri has yet to hit full stride at the Paris Olympics.

Dhabitah booked her spot in the women's 3 metre springboard individual semi-finals yesterday though admitted that she felt nervous during the preliminaries.

She placed 12th from 28 divers in the preliminaries after her dives scored 67.50, 63.00, 54.00, 48.00 and 51.15 points for a 283.65 total at the Paris Aquatics Centre.

Only the top-18 divers made the cut for the semi-finals which will be later today.

"I feel like it has been a while since I have competed in a (major) international competition so there were still some nerves today," said Dhabitah after the preliminaries.

"The divers competing this time are very young and I feel that they have stepped up their game.

"My target, as I have said before, is to take things one step at a time.

"Now that I have made it into the semi-finals, I will try and do better tomorrow (today).

"I will try to be more relaxed and control my emotions. I admit, I may have been a bit nervous. I tried to ignore it (yesterday) but sometimes the body does not follow the mind."

Dhabitah is competing at her third Olympics after Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

She finished fourth in the 3m springboard individual at Tokyo 2020 though has been held back by injuries in recent seasons.
