Hannah Yeoh hopes Para Sukma athletes inspire parents to register disabled children

KUCHING: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has expressed hope that the excellent achievements of para athletes at the 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA) will encourage parents of children with disabilities to register them.

Citing records from the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, Yeoh noted that only 7,000 disability cards have been issued, leaving over 4 million people with disabilities unregistered.

"With the achievements of the para athletes at Para SUKMA, I feel that interest in registering children with disabilities might grow after this. Make those who excelled here an inspiration to families out there to register their children," she said during her speech at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Para SUKMA here last night.

Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, along with Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, were also present.

Hannah also congratulated Bernama and TVS for their coverage of the successes achieved by the para athletes during the Games.

"As Minister in charge of youth and sports, I want to see sports as a medium for a healthy lifestyle and youth excellence. Moreover, sports unite various races and cultures," she added.– BERNAMA
