KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian squash fans were left worried over S. Sivasangari's bleeding left eye during the China Open semi-finals in Shanghai yesterday.
The ball hit the 26-year-old Asian champion's eye during the fifth set against Egypt's world No. 15 Farida Mohamed. Sivasangari, though receiving medical treatment, lost her focus and lost 11-6, 11-4, 10-12, 8-11, 9-11.
National chief coach Ajaz Azmat said fortunately Sivasangari suffered only a minor eye injury.
Ajaz added there is nothing to worry about the world No. 9's eye.
"It happens in matches. Sivasangari had a slight bleed in the eye but her eyesight is okay.
"We will consult the National Sports Institute once Sivasangari returns to Kuala Lumpur on whether she needs to see an eye specialist."
On why Sivasangari did not wear squash goggles for eye protection, Ajaz said she never wears it for matches.
"I am not sure whether she will wear it for her upcoming matches."
Ajaz said Sivasangari is well and will compete in the US$64,000 Malaysia Cup at the Curve Mall in Selangor from Nov 12-17.
