Foot injury forces Sivasangari out of US Open

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 9 S. Sivasangari has pulled out of the US Open in Philadelphia, which begins tomorrow (Oct 19), due a right foot injury.

National chief coach Ajaz Azmat said Sivasangari suffered the injury during the semi-final against American Oliver Weaver in the Silicon Valley Open in California on Oct 15.

"She also has a blister on her right foot and she needs a few days to recover. She will be back in action for the China Open (Oct 29-Nov 3).

Two other Malaysians - world No. 13 Ng Eain Yow and world No. 30 Rachel Arnold - will compete in the US Open.

National women's No. 2 Rachel Arnold will meet Japan's world No. 12 Satomi Watanabe in the first round.

Satomi upset world No. 10 Amina Orfi of Egypt in the Silicon Valley Open to reach the final before losing to Weaver.

National men's No. 1 Eain Yow is up against Egypt's world No. 2 Mostafa Asal in the first round.

Ajaz said Mostafa is on fire, winning the British Open, Egyptian Open and Paris Squash, and it will be very hard to stop him in the US Open.
