KUALA LUMPUR: Moonton, the developer of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), is open to helping the government build an eSports stadium.
On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that RM10 million from the RM20 million allocated for the growth of the eSports industry in Malaysia in Budget 2025 would be utilised to build an eSports specific arena.
Moonton's head of marketing and business development, Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, said the company, which organises the MLBB Professional League Malaysia (MPLMY), is always open for any party to come and discuss or get advice on the requirements for an eSports stadium.
"If you look at the MPLMY, we have been moving from stadium to stadium for quite some time.
"We have always wanted to find a home for the MPLMY. We hope we can work together with whoever is building it (the stadium) so we can potentially fully
utilise it as well," said Fikri.
MPLMY is one of the longest-running eSports leagues in the country and has been held for 14 seasons since 2018.
Meanwhile, Selangor Red Giants' co-founder Simon Lim said that an eSports stadium can be used to organise more tournaments, which will help grassroots development.
"Malaysia does not have a proper eSports arena, when there is a 'home for eSports', you can organise more tournaments and competitions will happen automatically.
"The stadium can also be utilised for multiple eSports titles and everyone should be able to use it. Even schools and high school-level tournaments can be held there.
"Let them have a feel of playing in a proper eSports stadium," he said while appearing as a guest on Timesport: On the Beat podcast recently.
