KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Harith Haikal Arshad shattered the boys' 110m hurdles record by clocking 13.31s to win gold in the Sea Under-18 Athletics Championships at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Friday.
Harith erased the previous record of 13.44 set by Malaysia's Hazriq Cik Mat Kilau in Bangkok last year.
Malaysia's Shahrul Aiman bagged silver in 13.68 while Patiphon Samnee of Thailand took bronze in 13.71.
"I was surprised to win as I did not train much due to preparing for my SPM," said Harith.
It was a 1-2-3 finish by Malaysian girls' in the 400m. Shayna Marianne Pereira won gold in 57.54 while Nur Fatini Isrulniza (58.35) and Nurin Aira Rusdi (58.52) bagged silver and bronze respectively.
Malaysia also swept the podium in the boys' long jump with Fitri Nurhan Syamsuddin (6.88m) taking gold, Daniel Syafiq Alif Coli (6.72m) and Harith Haikal Mazli (6.62m) bagging silver and bronze respectively.
Thailand's Chutithat Pruksorranan broke the boys' 100m record by posting 10.54 to erase the mark of 10.67 set by compatriot Wirayut Daenkhanob last year. Wirayut clocked 10.62 for silver while Malaysia's Dzul Danish Jamari took bronze in 10.70.
