Swimmers Isabelle, Ting Aw smash records in Bangkok

KUALA LUMPUR: Isabelle Chiyi Buckley dazzled in Bangkok, setting a new meet record in the girls' Under-15 100m breaststroke event at the Sea Age Group Championships today.

The 15-year-old clinched gold with a time of one minute 12.52 seconds, breaking compatriot Christina Loh's 14-year-old record of 1:12.90s set in 2010.

Thailand's Natthakitta Leekitchakorn (1:12.53) and Vietnam's Thuy Hien Nguyen (1:13.38) took silver and bronze, respectively.

It was Isabelle's second title of the championships, having smashed the 50m breaststroke record yesterday.

She clocked 32.72 in the final, eclipsing Thailand's Nisha Kijkanakorn's 2018 record of 33.27.

Natthakitta (33.32) again settled for silver, while Thuy Hien (33.39) took bronze.

In the Under-13 category, Yuet Ting Aw joined the record-breaking spree in the 100m breaststroke, posting 1:13.34 to smash Ginn Samantha Louisa Yeo's 2010 record of 1:13.71.

Thailand's Pimchanok Chinveeraphan (1:14.03) and Areeya Phuangthong (1:16.28) completed the podium.

Ting Aw also secured her second gold of the meet by winning the 50m breaststroke title yesterday with a record-breaking 33.46.

She surpassed the 33.96 mark set by Singapore's Roanne Ru in 2004.

Thailand's Klarnissa Thipsada Kong and Phattranit Prayadsup shared silver, both clocking 34.76.

In the Under-18 100m breaststroke event, Olympian Tan Rouxin won silver in 1:13.29, followed by Thailand's Chanittra Rodsom (1:12.64) and Wanichaya Tangtanasub (1:14.40).
