KUALA LUMPUR: Andrew Goh made a huge splash on the opening day of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) swimming event by rewriting his men's 100m breaststroke record at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatics Centre in Petra Jaya today.
The Selangor swimmer clocked 1:01.39s to erase his previous record of 1:02.30s set at the Malaysia Open in May.
Cham Yu Xiang of Federal Territories (FT) won silver with a time of 1:04.55s, while Sabah's Emmanuel Loh won the bronze, clocking 1:04.98s.
"I was already thinking about my plans before Sukma. I knew it would be a good race when I stepped onto the pool deck.
"After going through the drills with national coach Eric Anderson, I finally perfected my technique.
"However, there are things to work on, and I believe I will only get faster from here," said the 20-year-old, who dedicated his record-breaking feat to Anderson and the Selangor swimming team.
