KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aquatics (MAS) will continue to use the Minimum Qualifying Standard (MQS) to select athletes for two major international competitions next year.
MAS diving technical director Bryan Nickson Lomas said the system enables them to choose the best divers to represent Malaysia at next year's World Championships and Thailand Sea Games.
"Athletes who pass the MQS are potentially in line to be in the national squad for the World Championships and 2025 Sea Games.
"The same parameters will also be used to select divers for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan," said Bryan after a diving working committee meeting at the National Sports Council today.
He said the MQS has created a more competitive environment and opens up opportunities for every national squad member.
The MQS was introduced earlier this year to ensure that only the best divers will represent the nation. It requires athletes to register a set score twice out of three times in a calendar year. Junior and senior divers are given the same opportunity, and if they succeed, they will get to represent Malaysia.
