A CABINET minister in Indonesia has taken responsibility over the imposition of the latest Community Activities Restrictions Enforcement (PPKM), even if it meant causing drawbacks to society.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, posted this on social media about the PPKM which ends on July 20, according to the Antara News agency.
"If many people think (the emergency PPKM) has many drawbacks or errors in some of its enforcement, it is entirely my responsibility," he wrote on his Instagram account on Monday.
The latest restrictions imposed on the islands of Java and Bali for the past week, because of a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases, has triggered mixed responses from the public.
Some were negative but there are also those that have the backing of stakeholders, who help assure they will stick to the PPKM, he said.
"Several changes that we had made are starting to be visible, I always tell them that this is a collective effort, not just myself," Luhut said.
He also said President Joko Widodo too is in constant contact with him on the developments in the two locations, asking for updates on the PPKM.
Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded 40,427 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, with Jakarta contributing the most at 14,619.
Indonesia's total cases have now reached 2,567,630 since the announcement of the first case on March 2 last year.
