JAKARTA: A woman, whose decomposing body was found in a rented house in Cimahi, Bandung, is believed to have been murdered by her husband, reports Kompas.com.
The victim, Zakilah Indri Winata, 21, was killed by a man named Sahir, 24, on Aug 6.
For a week, Sahir attempted to conceal his crime by wrapping Zakilah's body in layers of sarong, bed sheet, blanket, prayer mat, plastic and a trash bag.
In addition to the wrappings, he also applied coffee grounds and fabric freshener on each layer to obscure the smell of decomposition.
According to Cimahi police chief Tri Sihartanto, Sahir had planned to dispose of his wife's body, but did not get the chance to do so.
"He may have been looking for the right time and place to dispose of the body," he said.
Zakilah's body was discovered after a witness, who also resided at the house, complained about a foul smell coming from Sahir's room.
The witness was shocked to find Zakilah's decomposed body in the room.
Police investigations revealed that she suffered violence and was murdered by her husband.
The violence was reportedly fuelled by jealousy, as Zakilah had been exchanging messages with another man.
"The perpetrator admitted to committing this heinous act out of anger and jealousy over his wife's communication with another man," Tri Sihartanto said.
