#Showbiz: 'John Wick' retired in Thailand?

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who looks like the hitman John Wick played by Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves has been creating quite a stir on Thai social media after TikTok videos of him doing things uncharacteristic of the onscreen killer in Thailand went viral.

The series of videos, which can be seen on a TikTok account called "Tuktiklife", features the John Wick double at different venues in Thailand carrying out various ordinary tasks such as making coffee, selling grilled cuttlefish, washing dishes, and visiting Bangkok's Wat Arun in Thai traditional attire.

The nine videos, which went viral on Saturday, have so far already collectively accumulated more than 15 million views.

One of the clips showed the man at a Thai shopping mall posing with many locals who took turns to have their photos taken with him.

While some commenters reckoned that the man could be Keanu Reeves' stuntman or just a lookalike, others were convinced he was the actual Hollywood star who was there to film a new John Wick movie.

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that the lookalike was actually a German man intentionally made up to resemble John Wick by his Thai wife.

Apparently, the woman, who lives in the Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province in Thailand, made the revelation on the Ruang Lao Sao Arthit TV programme, according to Thailand's The Nation.

She added that after noticing that her husband looked like John Wick, she dyed his blond hair and moustache black so he would further resemble the cinematic hitman.

In the 2014 Hollywood movie, John Wick, Reeves plays a retired hitman who is forced to return to his lethal profession after a group of Russian gangsters steal his car and kills a puppy that was a gift from his late wife who died of cancer.

The successful action thriller has since spawned a franchise with three sequels, a TV series spin-off and a movie spin-off, John Wick Presents: Ballerina, set to be released next year.
