LANGKAWI: The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) is confident the island would draw 1.1 million visitors in the first half of the year.
Its chief executive officer Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib said this was based on the arrival of 890,000 visitors during the first five months of 2022.
"This is in line with the positive recovery of the tourism sector following the rise in tourist arrivals since the country's international borders were reopened on April 1.
"Until May 27, we have recorded 890,000 visitors in Langkawi," he told reporters after the opening of the Langkawi Geopark Carnival 2022 by Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the Lada Complex here today.
A total 22 events will take place for a month beginning today.
Nasaruddin added that the promotion campaign for Langkawi would be intensified to achieve the 2.5 million visitors target by the end of this year.
"We are expecting a higher number of tourist arrivals in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
"We will be having promotional campaigns in Vietnam, followed by the World Travel Market in the United Kingdom, then Qatar Travel Mart in China, Singapore and Thailand," he said.
