"No point crying over spilt milk" says Zahid, in calling for GE15 to be held soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has urged for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held as soon as possible.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) backbone is fearful that the coalition may end up in the losing end the longer the polls are delayed, said party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Hurry up or Umno, BN will lose the GE (General Election)," he said in a latest Facebook posting.

He said this was the best time for GE15 to be held.

Zahid, who is the BN Chairman said delaying the GE is akin to the party giving weapons to the enemy to continue their attacks.

Because of that, he said, none of the opposition leaders had sought for Parliament to be dissolved despite often disparaging the fact that the current government is not the people's mandate and is a back door government.

"The party leadership and Umno grassroots are very confident that this is the best time to urgently hold the GE. The justification has been explained many times.

"What is important is that Umno does not want the opposition to continue using the final months before the dissolution of Parliament to attack BN," he said.

Zahid said the opposition is currently using various perceptions to challenge the confidence of the grassroots of Umno and BN.

"The issues presented by the opposition are fragmented and is not being seen from a comprehensive perspective.

"In other words, they attack, "spin" and then try to create an image that they are the best even though PH (Pakatan Harapan) which was in power for 22 months, proved otherwise. Until their own Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) resigned when he found out that their manifesto could not be fulfilled," he said.

Zahid, who is Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament, said the opposition's concerns can be seen when Dr Mahathir admitted Umno wanted GE15 to be held earlier because the former Prime Minister was convinced that the people still looked up to the party.

He adds that based on an interview with an international media agency, the Langkawi Member of Parliament said that currently, the opposition is divided and early elections are a good thing for the government because they are ready, while the opposition is not prepared.

"Umno has already made its stance known a long time ago. Now, it is up to the leadership of the government to expedite the demands of the grassroots and Umno.

"It's no use crying over spilt milk", he said in the event GE15 is held later and Umno loses..
