Residents of Semenyih, near Kajang, are getting anxious over the presence of stray dogs in their residential areas.
Gagasan Prihatin Semenyih (GPS) chairman Azman Ahmad said some parents were worried about letting their children go to the playground near their homes for fear of attacks by the stray dogs.
“Even though there has not been such a case, we hope the council will take immediate action.”
He said four primary school pupils in Bandar Rinching recently claimed they were chased by the stray dogs on their way back from school.
“Although the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKJ) has taken action, this problem seems to persist.
“So, I hope MPKJ will look into a more efficient way of tackling this problem for the safety of the residents here before anything untoward happens,” Azman said.
ACTIONLINE:
A Kajang Municipal Council spokesman said the problem of stray dogs in Semenyih was prevalent despite having sent dog catchers to the area.
“These stray dogs are not easy to catch because they run away upon seeing the dog catchers.
“However, we will send dog catchers again soon and figure out the best way to reduce the presence of stray dogs in the area.”
